Read Across America Day is March 2. March 2 is also Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This is not a coincidence. It’s on purpose and it’s very happily on purpose. The National Education Association is responsible for bringing kids across the country Read Across America Day. Read Across America Day is intended to make reading exciting and fun. While Read Across America Day is often focused on school-aged children and the NEA offers great ideas for activities for school-aged children there are great and easy ways to bring some reading fun into your baby or toddler’s day and pay a little respect to the incredible imagination of Dr. Suess too.
Ways Celebrate in Read Across America Day with your baby or Toddler
1. Check your local library or book store to see if they are hosting any official Read Across America events.
2. Read some Dr. Seuss books. What Pet Should I Get is a special book as it’s the newest Dr. Seuss book and was just recently published. Two very baby and toddler friendly Seuss board books are Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? and Dr. Seuss’s ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book. Our copies of both books have been read again and again and are very well loved.
3. Try some Dr. Seuss inspired food. Kids love fun food, and what better than some fun and whimsical food that fits the day and we here at the Right Start Blog just to happen to have a fun round up of ideas for you!
4. Incorporate some Seuss themed art into your day and decorate a Cat in the Hat style hat or paint some red and blue fish.
