My son loves cookies, and he’s not alone. I don’t want admit how many cookies I eat on a regular basis. There’s even something about the word “cookie” that elicits my excitement and cravings. Since I have been trying to commit our family to eating healthier whole foods and less processed sugary packaged items, I have been in search of healthy cookies I can feel good about eating and giving my kids.
Here are five easy recipes that are all dairy, gluten and processed sugar free. Just click on the name for the link to the recipe.
Apple Banana Cookies – These little gems can even be eaten for breakfast they’re so good for you. Relying solely on the sugar from the fruit, there isn’t even honey added. I added chocolate chips to a few cookies for the kids but felt chocolate didn’t really go with the cookies. They may even be good in mini loaf pans so you can slice them and add butter. The only suggestion I would make is to use an extremely ripe banana for more sweetness.
Anytime Cookies – these cookies live up to their name. I’ve tweaked this recipe for our tastes and Little Man loves having one of these for a treat in the afternoon. The best part is they freeze well so you can take one out at any time when you have that cookie craving.
Almond Date Cookies - This is one I haven’t yet tried but am certainly going to! I LOVE the idea of using a healthy fat such as avocado in the mix.
Double Chocolate Chunk Macadamia Nut – I made these as a special dessert for my in laws and they barely made it to the table! They are AMAZING and very decadent. This wouldn’t be a cookie for every day, but for those occasions when you crave chocolate – these more than fit the bill.
Homemade Oreos – My son is obsessed with Oreos so when I found this recipe I was thrilled. Again this isn’t something I would give him every day, but it certainly is a healthier option than the packaged ones the stores sell.
