Compared to most pregnant women, I am pretty non-traditional when it comes to baby showers. I do not enjoy, nor feel comfortable, being the center of attention. Most baby showers include some silly games and at least an hour of opening gifts, which I find to be boring as a guest, so I requested no games and no opening gifts at my own baby shower. I wanted a cocktail party-style shower where I could enjoy the company of my friends and family.
With all that in mind, my amazing mother planned a perfect baby shower fit for her non-traditional daughter. She also enlisted the help of my incredible sister-in-law, one of my best friends, and my aunts.
The shower was hosted at a Wine Bar with delicious Tapas and choice of white wine, red wine or white sangria (my personal favorite). As each guest entered, she received a hand-made bowtie that my mom made. I believe the Devil is in the details, and they definitely put some thought into each detail to make it personal to me, and I could not of felt more special or more loved.
On a side note, I stated I did not open gifts at the shower; however, there was one I did open, and it is probably one of the most thoughtful gifts a first-time mom can receive. A dear friend of mine sent out an email to guests of the shower asking them to answer a few questions:
- The Best New Mom Advice
- The Worst New Mom Advice
- Favorite Children’s Book
- Favorite Memory with Meghann
- Love & Encouragement
The answers were funny, thoughtful and will definitely make me smile during all of the hard times. My husband even made wrote a special note for me. Each answer was compiled in a book for me to look back on and refer to…
What was the theme of your baby shower? Are you more traditional or non-traditional when it comes to baby showers?
