The ABC Kids Expo is the annual trade show for the juvenile products industry and it’s when all kinds of exciting things are announced, from car seats and strollers to innovative new products, often created my moms who saw a need. I’ve been wandering the halls of the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas this week and I’ve seen some fun new trends.
Products that Simplify Car Seat Installation
The safest car seat doesn’t do you any good at all if it isn’t installed correctly. This year there were several car seats that made strides to simplify the installation process. I’m loving the technology behind the click tight installation system available in the Britax Frontier 90. This system allows you to use your vehicles seat belt to get a secure fit in minutes. I was amazed at how quick and easy it was.
The Chicco NextFit carries the easy installation of the KeyFit over into a convertible seat and makes it easy to fit into any car. This seat would be great if you have a tight backseat space or a car with deep seats that makes it hard to get a good fit with a carseat. We have been using the KeyFit and LOVED the ease of installation so I was excited to see some of the same features in a convertible seat. The NextFit is already available at Right Start.
If you want to take things a step further, 4Moms claims to have a self installing car seat. You do have to install the latch points but the car seat itself adjusts the tension and angle of the seat.
Forward Facing Baby Carriers
You’ve probably heard all the talk about the dangers of forward facing infant carriers. While I’m certainly not an expert in this area, many brands are claiming they have found a way to safely carry an infant in the forward facing position and I’ve seen several carriers that include a forward facing option this year including the new Ergobby 360 carrier (available spring 2014) with a front facing option and the Lillebaby carrier.
The Lillebaby infant carrier has been around for a little while but they’ve included some beautiful new fashions that will be available in early 2014. Their carrier allows you to carry your baby in four positions — on the hip, on your back, on the front facing inward, or on the front facing outward.
Strollers this year are trending towards sleeker and lighter weight models. These are great for moms on the go who don’t want to mess with a bulky stroller. Most of the brands I saw were offering slimmer versions of their most popular strollers or designing strollers with lighter frames. The Armadillo by Mamas and Papas is a great example of this. With such a compact fold and a tight turning radius, this little stroller can go with you anywhere you want to take it.
What do you thing about these new trends in baby gear? Would you use any of these?
