I can talk and write about maternity fashion all day! As someone who has always loved fashion and rising to a challenge, styling my bump became the perfect intersection of the two. Since I truly enjoyed styling my bump this exact time last year, many friends ask me for tips. And now I am grateful to have the opportunity to share them with Right Start moms!

The train of thought when getting dressed evolves simultaneously with your body. From “how can I hide that I am pregnant” to “how can I accentuate my new tiny bump” to “holy cow, how can I find something that fits me!”, the entire experience can be a wild ride. Adding on top of trying to look fashionable can sometimes be too much, but I have found these simple tips are helpful! To help you stay on trend for the season, I have tweeked them for fall!

  • Raid your closet. Before running out and purchasing a new wardrobe go through every item in your closet and see if it still fits. Most blouses will fit up until the second trimester and jackets and sweaters can fit a lot longer. The Pantone color of the year is Marsala and designers are incorporating it into every season, especially fall. Complimentary colors include brown, camel, and navy.

  • Basic is Best (to splurge on). A pair of pants you wear every day is a much better investment than a dress you wear to a friend’s birthday party. Splurge on three to four pairs of pants. I recommend a pair of thick black leggings, jeans, yoga pants (which you will live in), and a pair of olive pants, my absolute favorite for fall. Now just add two blouses and one sweater-dress later and you pretty much have everything you are going to need for fall!

  • Accessories go a long way. Purse, scarves, earrings and necklaces all add the finishing touch to any outfit and major bonus– will always fit you! Use your favorite purse as much as you can because as a new mom your diaper bag will take it’s place. When it comes to fall accessories the ones I am loving this season are oversized scarves in either traditional plaid, buffalo check, or houndstooth print. Hats are not only essential to staying warm, they are quickly become the most popular accessory for fall. Stock up on colorful beanies and fedoras.
  • Attend an event at Right Start! If you are fortunate to leave near a Right Start store then head to one of their maternity styling events with Foxy Mama Maternity. They deliver maternity clothes to your door!

Have fun styling your bump and being pregnant, because take it from me and all other moms- it goes by so quickly!!
